livable wages for New Hampshire workers

Keene, NH – Working Families Win, New Hampshire Citizen Alliance and Clean Energy Works will host a community conversation titled, “Creating the Economy of Our Future”, at the Keene Public Library on Wednesday, March 3rd at 7pm.

Senator Molly Kelly of Senate District 10 will moderate a panel that will address current state and national job creation proposals, ways to save the jobs we have in our state and how to make sure families in our communities are able to pay the rent and see the doctor while they are between jobs. The panel will consist of Professor Gerald Friedman at the Economics Department of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, President of the NH AFL-CIO, Mark MacKenzie, a local unemployed worker and State Director of Working Families Win, Jaime Contois. Following the panel their will be time for a community discussion.

“We are at an economic crossroad in the United States,” said Jaime Contois, State Director of Working Families Win. “Families in New Hampshire and across the nation are facing unemployment, additional layoffs, few job openings and at the same time unemployment benefits and cobra extensions are running out.” Contois is organizing this event as a way to highlight real action that is taking place across the state and country to address the real crisis many people are facing.

People who are concerned about job loss, who are currently employed, underemployed and unemployed, college students facing this new job climate and people interested in building communities that have full employment with jobs that pay living wages are encouraged to attend.
